RBI Assistant 2026 Exam Pattern

The selection journey starts with the Preliminary exam, which is qualifying in nature. Candidates who clear the sectional and overall cut-offs in Prelims advance to the Mains. The final merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained in the Mains Examination, provided the candidate qualifies for the Language Proficiency Test (LPT).

The Prelims consists of 100 questions to be solved in 60 minutes. There is a sectional timer of 20 minutes for each subject.

The syllabus for 2026 remains focused on testing a candidate's speed, accuracy, and fundamental clarity. While the core topics for Reasoning and Math remain similar across both stages, the Mains exam features a significantly higher difficulty level and additional sections for General Awareness and Computer Knowledge.

  • Current Affairs: Last 6 months of news (National, International, Sports, Awards, Summits).
  • Static GK: National Parks, Currencies, Capitals, Important Days.
  • Government Schemes: Latest financial and social welfare schemes.

5. Computer Knowledge (Mains Only)

  • History and Fundamentals of Computers
  • Operating Systems & Networking Basics
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Computer Hardware & Software
  • Internet, Cyber Security, and Shortcuts

Language Proficiency Test (LPT)

After the Mains, shortlisted candidates undergo the LPT. This test evaluates your ability to read, write, speak, and understand the local language of the region you applied for.

Note: The LPT is mandatory and qualifying in nature. Failing this stage results in disqualification regardless of your Mains score.
