RBI Assistant 2026 Eligibility Criteria

The RBI Assistant eligibility is the mandatory set of rules that candidates must fulfill before applying. Applicants must be Indian citizens or fall under eligible categories such as subjects of Nepal/Bhutan or Tibetan refugees settled in India before January 1, 1962. Candidates must hold a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized university, with the final result declared on or before the eligibility cut-off date (typically the first day of the month of notification).

The minimum age limit is 20 years, and the maximum is 28 years. In addition to academic excellence, candidates must be proficient in the local language of the state or region for which they are applying and possess basic computer knowledge.

RBI Assistant Age Limit

The age of the applicant is a primary filtering factor. For the 2026 recruitment cycle, candidates must generally have been born between February 2, 1998, and February 1, 2006 (both dates inclusive).

The upper age limit is relaxed for candidates belonging to the following categories:

  • RBI Assistant Age Limit for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 20 to 31 Years (3 years relaxation)
  • RBI Assistant Age Limit for SC/ST: 20 to 33 Years (5 years relaxation)
  • RBI Assistant Age Limit for PwBD: 20 to 38 Years (10 years for Gen/EWS, 13 for OBC, 15 for SC/ST)
  • Widows/Divorced Women/Women Judicially Separated: Up to 35 years (40 years for SC/ST)
  • Ex-Servicemen: To the extent of service rendered in Armed Forces plus 3 years (Max 50 years)

RBI Assistant Educational Qualification

Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university or institute. Unlike many other banking exams, the RBI requires a minimum of 50% aggregate marks for General, OBC, and EWS candidates.

Ex-Servicemen Qualification:

A candidate in the Ex-Servicemen category should either be a graduate from a recognized university or should have passed the matriculation or its equivalent examination of the Armed Forces and rendered at least 15 years of defense service.

RBI Assistant Percentage Calculation

While a minimum of 50% is required for most, SC/ST/PwBD candidates only need a "Pass Class." The percentage must be calculated by dividing the total marks obtained by the candidate in all the subjects in all the semesters/years by aggregate maximum marks in all the subjects irrespective of honors/optional/additional optional subjects.

Note: A fraction of percentage will be ignored i.e. 49.99% will be treated as less than 50%.

RBI Assistant Nationality

A candidate must be either:

  1. A Citizen of India, or
  2. A subject of Nepal, or
  3. A subject of Bhutan, or
  4. A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  5. A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or East African countries with the intention of permanently settling in India.
